Most of the time I am at school or a religious center I go to every weekend.
I notice people love to talk about their story so I usually ask questions about who the person is now and some background on who they used to be. For example when I am at my religious center I ask:
Have you always been Buddhist? What religions have you tried before this?
How many years have you been practicing Buddhism?
When I am at school the best thing to ask for is a favor. This has been proven with psychology studies that people will like you if you ask them for a favor. So I may ask:
Have you taken this class before?
May you do me a favor, may I see your notes, I want to know if I wrote down everything.
Do you like (whatever class we are in)?
Is this subject (class) easy for you?
I notice when I ask about people's opinion, preferences, story, or ask for a favor people always respond because they want to be of help and seen as interesting.
