Hi Vanessa, the team and the community! My name's Sophie Zadeh and I'm currently a Training Manager based in Sydney, Australia. I'm originally from the UK (been in Oz for around 8 years). I've been training people for just over 20 years and I love it, because my 'why' is to help people and I feel totally fulfilled when I do this .
In the UK I trained people in art and at the same time I was a freelance artist, I worked with people of all ages and abilities and helped them be creative, get messy, learn to work with children (in a creative way), make awesome stuff- or whatever else our goal for the training was. I did it for 15 years and it was a lot of fun! I got to work with many different types of people/groups- children, teachers/adults that work with children, refugees, young offenders, moderate or profound and multiple learning difficulties, gifted and talented, visually impaired, young people 'at risk', early years children, old age pensioners, autistic children and adults with mental health issues. Gosh- that was a mouthful!
All of this helped me to be more dynamic in training and communicating with all kinds of people- it also got me over being really, really shy and awkward- as a kid/young adult . Then, ready for a change, I moved to Australia and after all my life being self employed- I got a 'real' job- became employed- as a Training Facilitator for a direct sales/craft company. I trained our reps in business related topics and product training. I did most of this at large events, presenting to up to 800 people from a stage (Yikes- I know!!), this got me over a fear of public speaking (kind of- I still get crazy nervous beforehand, but nobody notices once I'm up there ), I ended up really enjoying it!
Frustrated that I wasn't working more closely with people and missing one to one/small group training contact, I changed jobs and now work as a training manager- training direct sales reps in our sales program. Part of the training I deliver is about the psychology behind the program and we touch on body language- this is when I really light up, because it's something I'm so passionate about. I've always been interested in body language and psychology- my favourite reading genre has alway been popular psychology. I've also done a bit of Paul Ekman's online training in micro expressions in the past. I came across Vanessa's videos on you tube just recently (recommended by one of my trainees) and thought to myself- I found my vocation in life- I need to be a body language trainer, then discovered the website, then saw this training opportunity- and I almost fell over!! I would LOVE to be a body language trainer!
I'm super keen to apply for the next round of training! I know there's a huge amount of interest (what was it?- over 800!) so the probability of getting in is pretty low, but, I'm still ultra excited as I feel I've discovered my purpose in life !
I have to thank Vanessa for sharing her knowledge and passion with us- and doing so in such an engaging way- Vanessa, you're a fantastic presenter! And I have to thank her team too- for facilitating it- thank you!
Thanks Vanessa- I think you just set my life in a new direction!
