I am loving these new format videos from SoP that gives quick tips on improving your body language!
I have to admit that I am guilty of doing one or two of these actions (yikes) the main ones being touching my hair but this is usually done in boredom whilst in class! And I am also known to cross my arms on occasion. Having this video as a visual aid, I can consciously improve my body language
Do you do any of these? If so which ones?
Nice, I like this format too and don't worry, you're not the only one guilty. I remember myself doing also some of those, e.g. unplanted feet and I also may have shown "resting bitch face" from time to time. (although I'm a man)
I believe that there is more of the guilty ones out there, maybe they'll share their "sins" with us here too.
Yes! I find I do some of these things out of boredom rather than being defensive or lack of confidence..... I do find that I check myself about 90% of my day now so I am consciously giving off positive signals now instead of perhaps unintentional negative and defensive ones.
I have become great at my hand gestures and I have been watching powerful and charismatic people to see what works for them and to incorporate into my own gestures!
So I am guilty of RBF big time, especially when I'm thinking, listening, or trying to understand....
Need to practice smiling and uplifting my brows.
Can these facial muscles be strengthened over time, like your pecs and delts?
you can indeed change face muscles. People kept saying to me cheer -up it might never happen. I couldn't understand why I was ok..eventually I studied my face and realized when my face was in " neutral " the corners of my mouth turn down so I did indeed look unhappy. So I started researching to see how I could change this I eventually used ( admin I hope it is ok to name the method I used if not please remove and sorry ) Face Yoga Method http://faceyogamethod.com/ ( I am in no way affiliated ) and that has changed my smile and helped me get fuller lips, as I had very narrow lips and I felt it makes me look friendlier with a slightly wider lip.
I am conscious of some related BL. for example I know when Im in conversation and thinking something through my face changes, I just hope it doesn't go into BF or look disengaging . Also I always stand on one dominant foot slightly because of a back problem and tend to shuffle between feet if stood still chatting. Although I may see it as imperceptible it probably isn't to a trained eye or brain, so hopefully that doesn't come across as unplanted feet. Which brings me to the point. With medical issues you may find that BL changes a little so reading too much without other social or other related cues can be misleading so I would tend to put 2 or 3 cues together to make a picture eg if someone stands or walks with a strange gait that you have been talking to, that might also suggest a medical problem not necessarily a social one.
My guilty habit is arm crossing. I consciously stop when I notice that I'm doing it. No RBF here, though. Reflexive smiler. I get asked for directions a lot.
