I think it depends on what you mean by "a routine". Do you mean a daily routine, bedtime routine, or what? That said, there's a system you should look into called "Personal Kanban" that might be helpful.
Basically, you put all your tasks (or X number of them) into a "To Do" column for that day/time period. Then you move one or two at a time into your "In Progress" category. When you're finished with those, you move them into "Done", and repeat the process.
And yes, routines can get boring. And yes, you can change them up, as long as you are comfortable with the change.
