I really liked learning about the Love Languages; I was definitely able to identify them for my parents, sister and close friends. I did have some difficulty putting myself into a given category at first…
Not really an Words of Affirmation type, (although they are always nice to get) But I will write letters of appreciation to other people.
I show love and appreciation by giving gifts, but not really crazy about giving them. (In fact, If I have a birthday dinner with my best buds, I usually give them gifts for my birthday)
I have been told that I sometimes do acts of service too much, however I feel bad when people do things for me. (The feeling bad has improved over the years)
But then I found that my primary is Physical touch and secondary is quality time
I love being hugged and close to people, I'm not in a relationship right now so that does not happen enough, (luckily one of my longtime best friend works at the same school, so I can go to her when I need a hug and she gets it). (Is that another reason why I teach my students how to shake hands?)
And I love just hanging out with my friends. I really don’t need the activities.
An interesting thing happened a few months ago: I was visiting my parents, and my dad and I were hanging in the living room. No TV, no tablets, we weren’t even talking, but we were still hanging out being together….
My mom comes downstairs, the conversation went like this:
Mom: What are you two doing?
Dad: Hanging out:
Mom: But what are you doing?
Me: We are hanging out, that’s all…
Mom didn’t get it. But Dad and I really enjoyed our afternoon.
