What you say impacts on what I believe in both family and work life.
In the last number of years, I spent time with my daughters and their friends (mates) by coaching basketball (I didn't just coach my daughters teams, but the boys well). It was a way to connect. The most important connection, which some of the former players made, is it helped them to be "better" people. In sport, you develop skills in a player, you then develop the team, and then you can challenge the players and the team to meet the goals you set at the start. I've had the joy of being able to see that development happen a few times and championships.
At work, I do the similar thing. I believe if I can help the team know what I know, they became better than I could ever be. They have my experience and theirs. It frees me to do other things knowing I have people more competent than me doing what I would have been doing. The jobs end up being memorable (in a good way), the people share their experience (we all benefit), we enjoy the job, we finish on time (injury free). Success! (of course BBQ's along the way helps).
I love what you've done with your team. Keep up the good work!
